Reading Challenge Update: October

At the end of 2015, I decided that I was going to challenge myself to read more books, but not just more books in general... I wanted to challenge myself to read more books outside of my comfort zone and outside of the genres that I normally read. To do this, I decided to join a few different reading challenges, hosted by many different bloggers in the book community. To keep track of the reading challenges, I came up with a way to keep track of the books I was reading for the challenges, and it is the very generically named Reading Challenge Update.

Okay... we all know that I had a terrible reading month in September. I was really down about it, and I was hopeful that I would make a great recovery in October. That was one giant oops, but there's a silver lining to the story!

Unfortunately I was only able to finish two books in October, but I read one of them in one day, and I have a pretty good reason as to why I haven't been reading as much.

I GOT A JOB!

Yes, you read that right! I got a job. So I'll tell you a little bit about that before we get to the massive list of books I read last month.

As most of you know, I've been a substitute teacher for a few school districts since graduating college. I've picked up a few short-term and long-term gigs over the years, but usually nothing more than a few weeks at a time and then going back to day-to-day. I picked up a week at a middle school in October, and by the end of the week, the secretary had emailed HR and told them how wonderful I was, and they placed me in the middle school library!

I work in a library now! So basically I'm surrounded by books all day, and it's pretty rad. Technically, I'm a teaching assistant, but I'm more like the librarian's assistant. I've been helping with check outs, check ins, and all the day-to-day behind the scenes work that happens in the library. I've also been helping out with displays and with the reading club. Oh, and the librarian even pre-ordered one of the ARCs I read because I liked it so much.

Flights of Fantasy

Books Read:

I already posted my review for this book, and I will admit that I was a little disappointed. It's good, but it's not the kind of good that I wanted.

Non-Challenge Books

Books Read:

Technically this is a debut novel, but Josh has been published before, so I'm putting it in this category. Oh, and this is the book that we pre-ordered for the kiddos! I loved it, and you all need to buy it at the beginning of the year.

So there's my story and the books that I read last month. I'm hoping to read three-four books a month now that I'm working, but I don't know if it's possible just yet. However, Election Day is tomorrow, so I'll be at the polls, working inside and will have some downtime. I might squeeze in a book or two!

Oh! And before I go... Let me know if you would be interested in knowing more about my job or anything like that. I can definitley post a little bit about it from time to time.
